Area Information

No matter the season, Deep Creek Lake, Maryland has something for everyone! Enjoy being close to everything when staying at Cove Creek Lodge.

Deep Creek Lake is Maryland’s largest freshwater lake, nestled in the mountains of Western Maryland. The lake offers 65 miles of shoreline and stretches nearly 13 miles from end to end. With its unique shape, Deep Creek Lake offers dozens of coves for quiet enjoyment and open parts of the lake for fun activities like tubing! Cove Creek Lodge is located in Arrowhead Cove, a nice quiet cove perfect for kayaking, swimming, or paddleboarding!

While Deep Creek Lake is the big draw during the summer, the area has so much more to offer year-round! The Deep Creek area is also home to Maryland’s only ski resort, 10 state parks, 3 state forests, multiple recreation areas, and dozens of unique and local shops and restaurants.

In the winter, enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing at Wisp Resort! The resort offers 30+ trails of varying difficulty, well-maintained terrain park, and 7 chairlifts. The mountain is split into three sections which allows for well-varied all-day skiing! Night skiing is also very popular at Wisp Resort! The resort features tons of snow-making equipment which allows them to maintain and add to the snow base at regular intervals. The snow tubing park features groomed tubing lanes and two magic carpet lifts to get you to the top of the hill.

Year-round – yes even during the winter – the local parks and recreation areas offer stunning natural beauty for the whole family to enjoy! One of the most popular parks is Swallow Falls State Park, which features Maryland’s tallest free-falling waterfall, Muddy Creek Falls. It’s stunning when it freezes in the winter! The loop around Swallow Falls is just about one mile, making it a nice easy hike. Other nearby parks with more robust trail systems include Herrington Manor State Park and Fork Run Recreation Area. Deep Creek Lake State Park is also a nearby park that offers a public sandy beach and miles of trails perfect for hiking or mountain biking.

The other great thing about our area is that most of the shops and restaurants are one-of-a-kind, locally owned businesses. That means you’ll get unique food and drink options you won’t get anywhere else. There are several businesses in walking distance from Cove Creek Lodge, too!
